The Hypor Libra, our commercial F1 sow, consistently produces uniform, healthy piglets at a heavier birth weight. These piglets are born with an average birth weight of 1.5 (kg 3.3 lbs) with 90% weighing more than 1 kg (2.2 lbs). We know that heavier piglets are at a strong advantage right from the start. They are more likely to consume enough colostrum, survive to weaning with greater weights, and become full value finishers in fewer days. Along with heavy birth weights, uniformity in piglet weight is important in producing healthy, high quality pigs. When all piglets are similar weight and size, there is less competition for teats and they can easily get the same nourishment from their mother. In the end, our goal for the Hypor Libra is to farrow and wean all her piglets with ease, leading to healthy, strong finishers.
