Meet the Expert – Mark Anthony
Keep reading to uncover the stories, passions, and expertise that make our Hypor team unique.
Who is Mark Anthony?
I graduated in 2008 with a Doctorate degree of Veterinary Medicine from the University of the Philippines -Los Banos. I have extensive knowledge and experience in Swine Planning & Production, Swine Animal Health, Feed Processing and Swine & Poultry Nutrition.
I worked for 2 years as a Swine Breeder Farm Manager in Red Dragon Farms (currently now known as RDF Feed, Livestock and Foods, Inc.) -one of the top performing farms in the Philippines during that time. Later I progressed to Feedmill Plant Manager for the same company (RDFFLFI).
Currently, I am the Technical Support Manager of Hypor in the Mainland Southeast Asia region, located in Vietnam while also responsible for Cambodia and Laos.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the swine industry?
At a very young age, I was already helping my family with our small swine backyard farm to make ends meet. Thus, when I went to college to take up Veterinary medicine, I had already set my eyes on becoming a Swine Veterinarian.
I have set myself on a mission to seek true swine knowledge and best practices to help swine farmers achieve efficient and cost-effective production that would inevitably result in better net income and more food on the table (especially for the small swine backyard farmers).
When it comes to working with customers, what’s your “superpower”?
My superpowers are my heart and my smile. My love for pigs and swine production has always pushed me to go the extra mile to ensure the pigs are in peak health and performing, and ultimately to help swine farmers achieve efficient and cost-effective production.
My smile has also always been in handy, during tough and challenging times when our customers think it is impossible to achieve better performance. My smile always tells them to forget all the worries and that “Yes”, we can do it. It encourages the whole team to have fun working while also subtly pushing the team to accomplish more.
What was the most rewarding project you worked on and why?
It is the Hypor Vietnam Farm Performance Improvement. We started with 28 weaned pigs per sow per year (WPSY) back in 2021 and currently (2024) we are now at 31 WPSY. This is a clear testament that with the right genetics, best practices, perfect animal health and great team collaboration, we can achieve great heights that were once thought impossible. This gives us more confidence to achieve more and reach out to other swine farmers to help them achieve better performance.
How do you see the future of the swine industry evolving?
The swine industry is set for a future where technology, sustainability and consumer preferences play pivotal roles. A growing global population will not only demand for higher pork consumption but there is also a clamor to ensure that production methods are efficient, ethical and sustainable.
Hypor breeder pigs are perfect not just for the present but also for the future because we champion balanced breeding. We ensure better performance and efficiency while also taking into account animal welfare and our carbon footprint.
Outside the swine industry, what are you passionate about?
I am passionate about basketball. I play, coach and even make analyses of the recent basketball games and news with my friends and fellow basketball fans. Other than being my stress reliever, it also keeps me in-check of my work ethic and helps me to foster a more dynamic and cohesive work environment.
