15 piglets Born Alive with Hypor’s Genetics at Schweinehaltung Düben, Germany

With an average of 15 piglets born alive, 2017 is shaping up to be a good year for Hypor’s partner Leon van Dijck, the owner of Schweinehaltung Düben GmbH & C. A Nucleus farm in Düben, Germany which works with Hypor genetics for many years now.

Van Dijck’s Hypor Large White gilts are averaging 13.5 live piglets, while parity two and parity three sows are averaging 14.9 and 15.5 piglets respectively. The first months of 2017 Dhr. Van Dijck has weaned 14.3 piglets with his gilts.

Van Dijck attributes the high success rate to a combination of the mothering ability of the Hypor Large White sow , management and qualified employees

Van Dijck’s Hypor Large White grandparent stock are bred with Hypor Landrace boars to supply quality replacement Libra* gilts to pork producers around Europe. The Hypor Libra* is the world’s most ‘prolificient’ sow—she is both prolific and efficient. Sheproduces a sufficient amount of colostrum and is bred to wean large litters. Piglets that get sufficient amounts of colostrum have a healthier start and are more likely to perform better later in life.

Van Dijck weighs each piglet at birth and again at 14-days to ensure that he is selecting the sows that have a good supply of milk—that will wean large litters of full value piglets.
